State plans to make Sagar mela plastic-free, teams to be on vigil

The Gangasagar Mela in Kolkata will be kept free of plastic waste by providing bio-degradable bags to pilgrims and deploying volunteers. The preparations for the Mela include ensuring safety with insurance cover and tracking vehicles with GPS. The event will be monitored by CCTV cameras and drones. Traffic management will be prioritized to prevent accidents and congestion. Fire-fighting measures will be in place, and additional dredging will improve navigation during low tide.
